We have a secret in our culture...

and it's not that birth is painful. It's that women are strong. - Laura Stavoe Harm

Birth philosophy

I believe that birth works.

Sometimes it happens quickly, and sometimes it happens slowly...but it works.

The female body was designed to give birth!

A healthy woman should have only about a 5% chance of a complication arising during the labor process.

We have been taught to fear what we don't know, and we no longer know about birth. Fear of birth has been instilled in us from a young age, coming from every movie ever made, every TV program, where women are "rescued" from pain, and every well meaning friend who tells us all of the reasons we will get "our" epidural.

 I believe in women.

I am constantly in awe when I am in a birthing womans space. There is so much power there, and so much vulnerability.

Wouldn't it be great to JUST GIVE BIRTH?

Every woman is capable of it! For some, it means letting go of pre-conceived notions about birth. For some, it means letting go of their inhibitions. For some, it means a lot of study. And for some, it means hiring a doula to attend to her during birth.

  • We believe that pregnancy and birth are normal, natural and healthy processes.
  • We believe that the knowledge of how to birth exists within every woman and therefore seek to instill in the mother confidence in her innate ability to give birth.
  • We believe in providing women and their partners the information necessary to make educated choices regarding pregnancy, labor, birth and parenting.
  • We believe that babies are unique individuals who come into this world with a profound physical and spiritual connection to their mothers, which should be nurtured. I strive to facilitate attachment and foster this bond, insuring that a baby’s needs are met.
  • We believe that women and men have an intuitive ability to nurture. We encourage the new mother and father as they develop the confidence necessary to tap into these innate gifts and care for their child.
  • We believe that the loving support, practical assistance and information I provide can ease the transition from couple to family.
  • We believe that mothering through breastfeeding is the best for mom and baby.

$13 to $20 billion a year could be saved in health care costs by demedicalizing childbirth, developing midwifery, and encouraging breastfeeding.
