I believe that birth works.
Sometimes it happens quickly, and sometimes it happens slowly...but it works. The female body was designed to give birth! A healthy woman should have only about a 5% chance of a complication arising during the labor process. We have been taught to fear what we don't know, and we no longer know about birth. Fear of birth has been instilled in us from a young age, coming from every movie ever made, every TV program, where women are "rescued" from pain, and every well meaning friend who tells us all of the reasons we will get "our" epidural.
I believe in women.
I am constantly in awe when I am in a birthing womans space. There is so much power there, and so much vulnerability.
Wouldn't it be great to JUST GIVE BIRTH?
Every woman is capable of it! For some, it means letting go of pre-conceived notions about birth. For some, it means letting go of their inhibitions. For some, it means a lot of study. And for some, it means hiring a doula to attend to her during birth.

$13 to $20 billion a year could be saved in health care costs by demedicalizing childbirth, developing midwifery, and encouraging breastfeeding.
